Operational
downtime was both unwelcome and costly in terms of
lost production but had become a problem owing to
the dissolved salt content in the water being used
by the Company in its die-cooling process. |
| Water
passing through the atmospheric cooling tower evaporated
causing the salt content in the remainder to increase
to a level where it was damaging and fouling the dies.
A reverse osmosis application in use was not adequate
for the level of the problem and help from Distech
was sought. |
|
|
The
solution was the installation of a Distech D50 through
which all the cooling tower water passes. Water
free from dissolved salts and metals is now used
for cooling and downtime is no longer a problem.
The
studio also no longer has to purchase distilled
water for production use as well as this is now
available on site. |
The
use of distilled water has also cleaned out scaling
from the existing cooling system and it is operating
more efficiently.
It is also estimated that the lifespan of the cooling
tower system has been extended from two years to
ten years.
